For the past few months, a lot of our early users have been asking us to add AI based note taking to Practicepicnic. Today, we're excited to announce that we're launching a beta version of our AI powered progress note generator to a handful of early users. Because this feature is still in beta, we're only offering it to a few users at this time. If you're interested in trying it out, please email support@practicepicnic.com.
How does it work?
We wanted to keep this feature simple and easy to use. We plan to improve this over the coming months with feedback from our early users. Right now, here is roughly how it works.
Step 1. Press record when the session starts
From the new AI Document page, press the "Begin Recording" button to start an AI session. Once recording begins, you can continue your therapy session as you normally would, without worrying about taking notes or keeping track of documentation. The AI will handle that part for you, so you can stay fully focused on your client.
Step 2. AI generates progress note
After the session ends, the AI transcribes the recording to text and then generates a progress note for you in the format you selected (eg: SOAP, DAP, etc). All within a few minutes. Once the note has been generated, the recording is deleted to ensure your client's privacy is protected.
Step 3. Sign off and you're done
Once you’ve reviewed the progress note, make any edits if needed, then sign off to finalize it. That’s it. Your documentation is complete in a few minutes.
HIPAA and privacy
We've built this feature with privacy and HIPAA compliance in mind. Here are some of the things we've done to ensure your client's privacy is protected.
- We delete the recording after the note has been generated.
- We delete the transcription after the note has been generated.
- Only documents you sign off on are considred part of your client's chart.
- We use industry standard encryption to protect your data.
- Our AI is secure and HIPAA compliant.
- Client data is not used to train our AI.
Client consent
Before using the AI progress note generator, you should have a conversation with your client to make sure they’re comfortable with this kind of tool being used for their documentation.
If you plan on using this feature, we encourage you to add something like this to your intake form.
How much does it cost?
We're currently offering this feature at no additional cost. If you're interested in trying it out, please email support@practicepicnic.com. We plan to eventually charge additional fees for this feature, but we're not ready to do that yet.
AI is optional
We totally get that AI isn’t for everyone, so this feature is completely optional. You can keep using progress notes and treatment plans the same way you always have with our existing templates—nothing is changing there unless you want it to.
